Westfield Area YMCA Flyers Athletes Shine at USATF-NJ Junior Olympic Meet

11 Athletes Advance to USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Qualifiers in 18 Events Following Strong Performances at Kean University

 

On June 22 and 23 at Kean University Alumni Stadium, the USATF-NJ 14 and Under Association Junior Olympic Meet took place. The 15 and older athletes competed in their Association Junior Olympic meet on June 30. 

The Flyers came out of these meets with 11 athletes advancing to the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Qualifiers in 18 events. 

Boys 7-8 Division: 

  • 800m Run and 1500m Run - Greyson Dunleavy 

Girls 11-12 Division: 

  • 1500m Run and 3000m Run - Sandra Jakubiuk. 

Boys 11-12 Division: 

  • Javelin - Emerson Parran

Girls 13-14 Division: 

  • 200m Hurdles - Molly Kanterman. 
  • Shot Put and Discus - Lucia Junkroft. 
  • 3000m Run - Abigail Drennan.

Boys 13-14 Division: 

  • Javelin - Jonas Cho.

Girls 15-16 Division: 

  • 100m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, 200m Dash and 400m Dash - Lidia Wright. 
  • 3000m Run - Jessica Zhou. 

Boys 15-16 Division: 

  • 800m Run and 1500m Run - Emmanuel Sanchez. 
  • 3000m Run - Arjun Vernekar.

The Westfield Area YMCA Flyers Track Club is led by USATF-certified coaches and serves hundreds of athletes ages 7-15 year-round. Athletes learn the fundamentals of distance running and techniques unique to off-track running, with more experienced runners building on fundamental skills through conditioning and in-depth training. Registration is open now for the cross-country season September 9 - November 1, 2024.
